The game starts with the dealer dealing two cards to each player. After that the players must decide if they want to stay in the hand or fold. If they want to stay in the hand they will say “call” or “raise”. This means that they are calling or raising the amount of money that was put in before them.
After everyone calls or raises the dealer puts three more cards on the table that anyone can use. These are called the flop. If there is a pair of the same rank on the flop it is considered a straight. If there are two pairs or more of the same rank it is a full house. If there are no pairs then it is a flush.
In poker you must try and guess what your opponent has in his hand. This sounds like a difficult task, but after you play a few hands you will realize that it is fairly easy. The most important thing is to not let emotion get in the way of making a good decision. Defiance and hope are the two most dangerous emotions in poker.
